"The Peasants" directed by our Graduate is the Polish candidate for the Oscar!
"The Peasants" directed by our graduate, DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman is the Polish representtative for the nomination for the Academy Award of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The spectacular adaptation of Władysław Reymont's Nobel-awarded novel delighted the audience of the Gdynia Film Festival, who honored it with the Audience Award, and the Main Competition Jury awarded the directors – DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman – a Special Award for a unique film form. Two awards were also given to Kamila Urzędowska, who played the main role of Jagna.
Now this unique film will fight for the most important statuette in the industry! Let us remind you that this wouldn't be the first nomination for the project directed by DK Welchman. Previously, "Loving Vincent", made by using the same painting technique, had a chance to win an Academy Award in the "Best Animated Feature Film" category.
The choice was made by the Comitee which included:
- Ewa Puszczyńska (Chairman) – producer of i.a. the films „Ida”, „Cold War” and „Quo Vadis, Aida?”;
- Radosław Śmigulski – Director of the Polish Film Institute;
- Maciej Ślesicki – director, screenwriter and two-time Oscar-nominated producer, founder and Chancellor of the Warsaw Film School;
- Aneta Hickinbotham – producer of „Corpus Christi”;
- Ewa Piaskowska – producer and screenwriter of „EO”;
- Allan Starski – film set designer, Oscar winner for the set design for Steven Spielberg's „Schindler's List”.
We are delighted and extremely proud of both DK Welchman and the entire huge team that worked on this mega-production! Big congratulations! Go and snatch that Oscar!
