Janusz Majewski is one of Poland's most renowned filmmakers with a long-standing career reaching back to mid 60s, when he debuted award winning "The Subtenant". He have since made dramas and comedies on both contemporary and historic subjects.
"I have always tried to make the best cinema I could. I've been fascinated with its essence as the spectacle of picture and sound, spectacle that is a combination of many elements - literature, acting, visual arts. Cinema as a union of many arts.", says Majewski.
The Platinum Lions, one of many awards that will have been received by the director, were previously awarded to Tadeusz Konwicki and Roman Polański, among others.
41. Gdynia Film Festival will take place from 19 to 24 September.
